Fact-Finding Mission

Gathering data upfront reduces back-and-forth and prepares for the correct fix first time.

  • Property: Construction (brick/stone) and location (hills/trees).
  • Signal: Cellular strength (2G/3G/4G) next to meter.
  • Obstructions: Internal walls, meter units, or external scaffolding.
  • Environment: Recent power cuts, surges, or cavity wall insulation.
  • Device Logs: Must check CHF online status first.
  • HAN Reach: IHDs should be within 5m; Gas meters within 5-10m.

Getting your NSMR Approved

Avoid the "Pass Back"

Unnecessary site visits cost an average of £400 per job. Follow these rules:

  • No Duplicates: Do not raise multiple NSMRs to speed up a job; it clogs the backlog.
  • Remote First: Remote commission MUST be attempted before requesting an on-site commission.
  • Detailed Notes: Use snippet [nsmr.note] for Parking, Pets, and Availability.
  • SMP/SMM Approval: Include "Approved by SMP/SMM [Name]" in additional details.

NSMR Status Definitions

Pending Initial state; unassigned.
Investigating Assigned to Smart Experience; do not chase for 3 days.
Approved Request accepted and job booked.
Action Required Request rejected; check timeline for feedback.
On Hold Usually waiting for capacity or customer response.

SMETS2 Remote Commissioning

The Orchestration Process

A device must be Commissioned to send/receive data via the DCC.

  1. 8.11 Add Device to HAN: Tells CHF to expect the device.
  2. Join Confirmation: Triggered via Auto-join or physical button pressing.
  3. 6.23 Update Security Credentials: Applies our supplier certificates (ending in -FE).
  4. 8.1.1 Commission Device: Final step to activate the meter.

Smart Metering Quick Fixes

No SMETS2 Record / No Data

Issue: "No SMETS2 record found" message in Kraken.

Solution: Ensure Install Date matches Commission Date in meter details, then click "Link Smart Meter".

Tariff Mismatch

Issue: IHD shows incorrect costs.

Solution: Use the "Send" button next to the tariff to force an update to the meter. (Note: Not supported for half-hourly products like Intelligent Octopus).

Old Inventory Stuck

Issue: Old meters appearing after a MEX or Crossed Meter case.

Solution: "Reset Device Network" under Actions, then "Read Inventory" to refresh.
